Home nursing equipment needs

Heather Young Liaison Nurse, Wandsworth Community Health Trust, London

Heather Young describes a project to identify pressure- relieving equipment needs in the community

In December 1993, our community nursing service was allocated money for home nusing equipment to facilitate early discharge of patients and to prevent protracted in-patient stay due to lack of appropriate equipment. An audit of existing stock had already been carried out. Much of the equipment was old and the literature suggested that the mattresses we had offered little pressure relief (1,2).
