The new patient support assistant role showed one ward how much they had been missing, says Jenny Knight

When Matthew Baxter joined Forrester Brown trauma unit at the Royal United Hospital in Bath as an intern student, his aim was to boost his employability. But when he moved on to another placement, the trauma unit was bereft. ‘We just did not realise how much he did,’ said senior charge nurse Simon Andrews.
