Diagnosing gout
Jeff May Emergency nurse practitioner, City Hospital, Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust
By studying a case that occurred at his emergency department, and applying a model of reflective practice, JEFF MAY analyses the criteria for diagnosing gout in patients
This reflective article is concerned with the management of gout in emergency care settings. A condensed version of a model of reflection proposed by Gibbs (1988), which is in turn based on Kolb’s (1984) experiential learning model, is used to explore the factors underpinning safe practice.
