Older people and women most likely to take up health checks

Vari Drennan Professor of health care and policy research, Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education, Kingston University and St George’s, University of London

England’s NHS Health Checks programme is designed to reduce cardiovascular disease. Patients aged 40-74 years are invited for assessment and targeted health promotion advice. This study investigated the sociodemographic characteristics of those who did and did not attend for health checks and, of patients attending, the characteristics of those agreeing to participate in a nested study of an intervention to promote physical activity.
