The authors of this text take a pragmatic approach to explain contemporary health policy. As well as providing a brief history of social policy, the first chapter draws on NHS examples to explain some economic principles, such as quasi and internal markets. Also of interest is the account of new labour policies in chapter two, including modernisation targets and how they could be achieved.
