A patient’s suicide led me to question my nursing abilities

Alice’s admission to the acute mental health ward coincided with the beginning of my placement. During the two weeks she spent on the ward I spent a considerable amount of time getting to know her. I could hardly believe it when I heard she had committed suicide while on an overnight pass.
