Patient-led handovers should be encouraged

The patient-led handover is an excellent idea, with benefits that may not be obvious at first (news November 1). Greater bonding with the patient and their family will improve communication and save everyone’s valuable time. Perhaps staff room handovers could be reserved for reporting exceptions that were not covered elsewhere. A team briefing following the patient-led handover would get everyone on board.
