Promises or porkies? What can we believe these days?
If my incisive weekly commentary on nursing issues ran to 400 pages rather than a paltry 400 words I would treat you to an unexpurgated version of my dossier, Pork Pies or Promises? Weeding out the Whoppers in Healthcare Policy. It highlights all those policy initiatives launched with a fanfare and a finger buffet but which then sank faster than soap in the bath. Cheap houses for nurses – where are they? Subsidised childcare – what progress? Sixty per cent more nurses qualifying by 2008 – but how many will leave to become fishgutters because the pay is better?
