Hospital-acquired infection (HAI) causes much public concern and is much higher on the political agenda than it has ever been previously. Currently, a number of projects are in progress which will increase nurses’ knowledge of the impact of HAI and management of hospital infection control, and will also provide guidance to inform practice and monitor standards. In the meantime, HAI continues to be a significant problem for nurses and patients.
