Tackling racism

Byron Lee Training and Development Manager, Diversity Initiatives, Summit Personnel Development, Bristol

Prejudice and discrimination have their roots in negative stereotyping. but simply understanding this process is not enough, says Byron Lee

THE DEBATE at RCN Congress on institutional racism in the college had a profound effect on many people anger, sadness, resentment, shock, fear. And with the emotions came an immense amount of confusion. What does all this mean? How do I deal with this now? Many people felt threatened by the suggestion that they might have unwittingly contributed to institutional racism or that they might be prejudiced in some way.
