Moving nurses for cover can put staff and patients at risk, says Michael Hutton

SOMETIMES registered nurses cover for sickness and absence in areas where they do not have the specialised knowledge to work. This may mean that some nurses, through no fault of their own, do not have the comprehensive knowledge base to draw on so that they can honour their commitments as laid down by the UKCC.
