Gaining access to a patient's home requires a multitude of skills. Lis Cook sets out her theory

DISTRICT NURSE training involves knowledge ranging from sociology and social policy to psychology and behaviour. These subjects have enabled me to develop many skills. But one which I had never considered before was drawn to my attention when I began to kike student nurses into the community with me. It has become known, unofficially, as the Cook Theory of Access.
