The focus on cognitive behaviour therapy is denying people access to effective psychological treatments, argues Peter Stratton

THE UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) has been enthusiastic about the English government’s decision to fund substantial extra provision of psychological therapy through the NHS. Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) offers the chance of significant benefit to people experiencing the personal and social costs of depression and anxiety, and the UKCP hopes it will continue to develop.
