Awareness weeks only succeed if increased profile translates into action, says Aisling Duffy

I’M ALL for raising the profile for important issues but it seems that every week is some kind of ‘awareness week’, whether it is mental health, breast cancer, child poverty, or, in the case of June 21-28, Learning Disability Awareness Week. With so many causes vying for the public’s attention there is a question over whether this is the best way to highlight an issue.
